I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to acknowledge the receipt of your Confidential letter 32714/1003 of the 2nd instant, enclosing a copy of a telegram from the Governor of Hongkong relative to the suggestion which has been made to him that His Majesty's Government should acquire an island in Amoy Harbour in exchange for a grant of land in Hongkong.

Lord Lansdowne would suggest that Sir H. Blake should be informed that His Majesty's Government cannot entertain the idea.
